Magic Whistle Radio Hour 143

Things I've collected over the years or acquired on mixtapes and comps or gathered from the internet or the library or my parents' attic. The different sources are the reason for the volume disparity. I make no claims to "discovering" or "owning" anything. Probably neither do you. It's whatever I feel like playing that week. Every Saturday. No repeats. Things that may or may not be familiar. Who knows? The time's next to each song in case you don't like something or it's icky or if you don't want your kids to hear it. Don't let offense at one song cloud your impression of the curation as a whole. Past weeks here too. Just type "Audio" in the search engine. Or if you're too lazy to press a button more than once, here's everything up to July 2017. You don't get the all playlists, though. You can right-click this if you want to save a zip file of this one (containing an mp3 of the file) for later. Here what information I was able to find:

“Those that have heard I'M FROM NEW JERSEY agree that as a state song it has all the qualities one could desire. The words and music are simple and catchy and tell the world how the 'Garden Staters' feel about New Jersey in a bright and happy tempo [...]
“Also, I”M FROM NEW JERSEY has been put to the test, and has come through with flying colors. The song was introduced during the Phillipsburg, NJ centennial celebration in the spring of 1961. TV and radio star Carmel Quinn, who headlined a week-long show, sang it nitely. The song was so well received that Phillipsburg adapted I'M FROM NEW JERSEY as their official town song in April 1961. Alpha and Milford, NJ liked the idea and celebrated their golden jubilee anniversaries with I'M FROM NEW JERSEY as their official song in the summer of 1961. And in the spring of 1962, Dunellen, NJ, also known as 'Railroadtown, USA' as the official song for their diamond jubilee, along with West Orange, NJ, who was celebrating their one-hundredth anniversary. It was also used on the Perry Como TV show, as his introductory theme to the state of New Jersey on January 3, 1962.
“Other municipalities which have adopted or endorsed the song, although not celebrating, are Washington, Hackettstown, Belvidere, Flemington, Netcong, Lambertville, Lopatcong Twp., South Amboy, Secaucus, and South Brunswick, New Jersey. [...]
“In 1964, New Jersey will mark its three-hundredth anniversary, which means that for three-hundred years, New Jerseyites have been proudly saying 'I'm from New Jersey' when asked where they're from. Perhaps now might be a good time to start singing it.”
